3D Panoramic Spheres in Google Earth
Posted on July 6, 2007
The Google Earth application has changed the very way in which the world used to map the earth. Using the Google Earth application has eased out many tedious problems in cartography; the GE has made finding things simple. The whole world is available at the click of a button for the user. Google Earth uses satellites images which are high in resolution and are very graphic. The accuracy of the images is also very reliable in GE.
The user of the GE application can view the image in a three dimensional manner and check the attributes of any location inside out. The best thing about the GE is that it is free and anyone can download the programme and run it on his/her computer and can play with the world. The subscribed versions of GE have more functionality and are made for commercial uses. But the free version also lets the user to perform many functions. The SketchUp of Google is an ultimate model maker and has many tools for rapid model building.
The user can now view panoramic pictures in the Google Earth programme; now there is a spherical 3D model on the GE and adding the panoramic photo in the application lets the user view the 3D panoramic spheres in Google Earth. To have the 3D panoramic sphere in GE the user should have the tool of Space Navigator with this the viewing gets more proper rather than using the other tools has a very limited functionality. The Digital Urban blog has all the steps to view the 3D panoramic views in Google Earth. The user in order to view the 3D panoramic sphere in GE has to the Collada file from the blog and the download has to be saved on the user’s hard disk.
The user then has to fix his panorama location and the file has to be a .jpg file. Next the user has to access the ‘PanoViewer.dae’ in a text editor in the Collada file, the user then has to locate the init_from>YourFileNameorHTTPAddress.jpg the user then has to change this to his concerned file name of the panorama. When the user has done with the steps he has to then save the file and open it in the GE. The user then has to fly in the concerned location of the panorama. To open the panorama the user needs to drag ‘PanoViewer.dae’ into Google Earth and the file gets loaded into the GE.
The Altitude tab in GE can be set and then dragging the panorama to its exact location by clicking and dragging the onto the cross in the centre and rotating it by clicking on the small green square opens the 3D Panoramic Spheres in Google Earth.
